Washington is “pushing Moscow into a corner” by expanding NATO, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said.
China considers the United States the “main culprit” of the war in Ukraine. This is what Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui said in an interview with TASS, Reuters reports.
Hanhui accused Washington of “pushing Russia into a corner because of the repeated expansion of the NATO defense alliance and the support of forces seeking to integrate Ukraine into the European Union in opposition to Moscow.”
“As the initiator and main perpetrator of the Ukrainian crisis, Washington, while imposing unprecedented comprehensive sanctions against Russia, continues to supply Ukraine with weapons and military equipment … a long war and a bludgeon of sanctions,” – emphasized the ambassador.
He also noted that Sino-Russian relations have entered “the best period in history, characterized by the highest level of mutual trust, the highest level of interaction and the greatest strategic importance.”
According to Hanhui, the US is trying to use “the same tactics in Ukraine as in Taiwan” to “revive the Cold War mentality.”
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing did not intend to “sit idly” while watching the situation in Ukraine.
