According to a white paper released on Wednesday, China said it would not tolerate “separatist activity” in Taiwan, insisting it would take back the island by force if necessary.
“Question about Taiwan and reunion China into a New Era”, an official document published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Taiwan China’s State Council determines how Beijing intends to take over the island through economic stimulus and military pressure.
“We are ready to create a vast space for peaceful reunification, but we will leave no room for separatist activities in any form,” the White Paper says.
Beijing’s warning came after days of Chinese military exercises around Taiwanmade in response to the visit to Taipei of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
The lawmaker last week became the top U.S. official visiting Taiwan decades, despite the threat of retaliation from Chinawhich seeks to isolate Taipei from the world stage.
“We will work with the utmost sincerity and do our best to achieve peaceful reunification. But we will not renounce the use of force and reserve the opportunity to take all necessary measures,” the document emphasizes.

“This is done in order to protect us from outside interference and any separatist activity. This is in no way directed against our Chinese compatriots in Taiwan. The use of force will be the last resort adopted in insuperable circumstances.”
Last time China published a white paper on Taiwan it was in 2000.
The new document was released on the same day that a senior leader of the Taiwanese opposition went to China meet Taiwanese businessmen despite Taipei asking him to cancel the trip.
Andrew Xia, vice chairman of the pro-Beijing Kuomintang Party, made the visit in his personal capacity and was not in the capital.
But Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen sharply criticized him for crossing the strait. Taiwan at the moments when China perform maneuvers around the island.
Since the 1990s, the island has evolved from an autocracy to a vibrant democracy, and a distinctive Taiwanese identity has emerged.
Relations between the two sides have deteriorated since 2016, when incumbent President Tsai, whom the Democratic Progressive Party does not consider Taiwan as part China.
Your platform meets the definition of what China qualifies as Taiwanese separatism.
fear of invasion
Chinese white paper promises Taiwan economic prosperity, and “more security and dignity” after “reunification”.
But this proposal became known after the largest military exercises, which China performed around the island, including blockade rehearsals.
The maneuvers raised fears that the Chinese communist authorities were preparing to invade.
The exercise was expected to end on Sunday, but it continued this week and it is not known when it will end.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Wednesday revealed details of a drill held the day before around Taiwan.
The PLA’s Eastern Command said Tuesday’s exercise focused on establishing air supremacy, releasing videos and photos of fighters taking off and performing maneuvers such as in-flight refueling from a tanker plane.
The military later said it had “successfully completed several missions”, without specifying if it would conduct additional exercises.
“The troops in (the east) will monitor the situation in the Strait TaiwanThey will continue to conduct combat exercises and prepare for war,” the EPL added.
Taiwan accuses China use Pelosi’s visit as an excuse to prepare an invasion.
The island held its own military exercises to repel an attack on the island and on Wednesday released images of its air, land and sea forces reacting to Chinese maneuvers.
Taiwanese exercise sparked another warning on Tuesday China.
Any plot to “resist reunification by force of arms… will end in failure, like a praying mantis trying to stop a chariot,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.
