Kyiv agreed with Bern that the latter would act as a representative of its interests in Russian territory.
Ukraine agreed with Switzerland on the representation of Ukrainian interests in Russia. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine in connection with the commentary of the department’s spokesman Oleg Nikolenko on Wednesday, August 10.
The President of Ukraine issued relevant instructions to the agency.
“Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who were illegally removed from Ukrainian cities and villages temporarily captured by the Russian army, including children, need help. Many of our citizens ended up on Russian territory without documents ,” the report said.
The ministry recalled that there are no Ukrainian diplomatic institutions on the territory of the Russian Federation.
They also added that the ways in which Switzerland represents Ukraine’s interests in the Russian Federation will be determined in bilateral agreements.
“According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the host country must give permission for Switzerland to represent Ukraine’s interests in Russia,” the Foreign Ministry added.
It will be recalled that Switzerland refused to issue visas to Russian delegates who planned to participate in UN events in Geneva.
In addition, Switzerland introduced the seventh package of sanctions against Russia, banning the import of Russian gold.
