Adding just under two cups of grapes a day to a high-fat Western diet has been shown to reduce fatty liver disease and increase life expectancy.
This is evidenced by the results of a recent study by American scientists, published in the journal Foods, EurekAlert reports.
These studies give a whole new dimension to the old adage “you are what you eat,” the researchers note, adding that the findings show “really amazing” changes.
Experiments in mice showed that adding grapes to a high-fat diet increased antioxidant gene levels and delayed natural death.
While recognizing that it’s not an exact science to convert mice to human life years, the scientists note that the changes observed in the study roughly correspond to an additional 4-5 years of human life.
