Brazilian police announced the arrest of a German diplomat on Saturday on charges of killing her Belgian husband at their home in Rio de Janeiro and then tried to cover up the crime.
Uwe Herbert Hahn, German consul in Rio de Janeirotold authorities that her husband, Belgian citizen Walter Henri Maximilian Biot, hit his head after falling, according to police.
However, analysis of the body and the couple’s apartment in the fashionable Ipanema district showed that, according to the same source, Biot suffered from other blows.
Version of the German diplomat
“The consul’s version that the victim fell is inconsistent with the conclusions of the forensic medical examination,” officer Kamila Lourenko said in comments posted on social media by the 14th police station in Rio de Janeiro.
“Several bruises were found, including on the torso, consistent with injuries from steps, as well as injuries consistent with an attack with a cylindrical object,” he added.
According to local media reports, Khan, who had been married to Biot for 20 years, tried to clean up the crime scene before police arrived, telling police that her husband was drinking heavily and taking sleeping pills.
According to a photo of his ID published in the Brazilian press, Bio is a week before his 53rd birthday.
German embassy did not immediately respond to an AFP request for information.
Both the embassy and the consulate in Rio de Janeiro are in “close contact with the Brazilian authorities investigating the case,” a Brazilian government source said on Sunday. German Federal Foreign Office.
