The decision is driven by the fact that Washington wants to resume inspection activities, under conditions that supposedly “create advantages for the United States”
In Russia, they decided to suspend the inspection of nuclear facilities of the United States. This was provided by the Treaty on the Reduction of Offensive Arms between the countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
It was noted that on August 8, the Russian Federation informed the United States about the closure of access to the inspection of nuclear facilities. This decision is motivated by the fact that Washington wants to restart inspection activities, in conditions that allegedly “create advantages for the United States and do not take into account the facts.”
“They (the new US conditions – ed.) actually deprive the Russian Federation of the right to conduct inspections on American territory,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The agency also noted that due to US sanctions, “Russian planes cannot transport inspectors to the territory of the United States, as the airspace for them is closed.”
The bilateral agreement between the Russian Federation and the United States on the mutual reduction of deployed strategic nuclear arsenals provides for the reduction of deployed nuclear warheads for each of the parties. It has been in operation since 1991. On January 29, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin again extended the agreement until February 5, 2026.
Earlier it was reported that the danger of using nuclear weapons has reached a peak. All the “nuclear club” states intend to increase the number of warheads in the coming years, and are also modernizing their nuclear arsenals.
