Ukraine often requires Western partners to confiscate the assets of Russian oligarchs. On August 8, the Anti-Corruption Action Center stated that, at the same time, the Ukrainian authorities had not yet submitted ANY application to the court to recover the assets of Russians in Ukraine.
More than two months have passed since the adoption of a law allowing the authorities to confiscate the property of Russians, but nothing is happening, the CPC said in a statement. At the same time, its chairman Vitaliy Shabunin wrote in a blog that on August 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky, citing the government, said: “Ukraine has already forcibly seized assets worth UAH 28 billion.”
But the reality is somewhat different, Shabunin believes. For example, the Nikolaevsky Alumina Refinery, one of the largest non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises in Europe, is still owned by the Russian oligarch Deripaska.
Ocean Plaza, one of the largest malls in Kyiv, is still owned by a company associated with the Russian oligarch Rotenberg. On August 11, this mall plans to reopen.
“Marmalade” – another shopping center in Kyiv, co-owned by the head of Gazprom Miller, “Putin’s banker” Kovalchuk and member of the State Duma Fokin – continues to work.
There are not even dozens of such examples – hundreds. Everything is fine with key Russian oligarchs with their assets in Ukraine. Nobody touches their assets. Then what miracles should it do, for example, in the USA or Britain? – the message of the Center for Combating Corruption says.
Recall, on March 3, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 7122 on the forced seizure in Ukraine of objects belonging to the Russian Federation, Russian companies and citizens of Russia.
At the same time, People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that at the next meeting the Council would approve the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against a significant number of legal entities and individuals in Russia.
The nationalization of the property of Russians and collaborators was legalized by the Council – how it will happen
