The press secretary of the Kremlin leader said that the latter will not go to the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the UN General Assembly, scheduled for September this year. The Kremlin leader also will not speak via video link.
This was said by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, according to the Russian pro-government news agency TASS on Monday, August 8.
“The trip and performance were not planned,” he said.
Thus, the delegation of the Russian Federation to the 77th session of the UN General Assembly will be headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
It should be noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has been flying to New York in recent years.
In 2009, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev addressed the General Assembly. Putin last attended the opening session of the General Assembly ten years ago, when the UN turned 60 years old. Before that, he spoke there twice – in 2003 and at the “millennium summit” in 2000.
It can be recalled that the Kremlin responded to the proposal of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to organize a meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia. In particular, Moscow “accepts the initiative” of the Turkish leader, but now the negotiations will not be held, because Ukraine does not want to participate in them, Peskov said.
In addition, Peskov previously said that Russia is currently “using only a small part of its potential” during the invasion of Ukraine.
