Russian publications say that several dozen volunteer units have been assembled in Russia. The ruling Russian regime plans to send them to fight in Ukraine.
Volunteer units to be sent to the war in Ukraine from the beginning of August began to be created in St. Petersburg. The formation of such detachments has been going on for months in many regions of Russia. This was reported by the Russian edition of Kommersant on Monday, August 8.
This process has been going on since spring, media reports. In particular, more than 40 volunteer units have already been created in at least two dozen regions of Russia. You can find out about them from messages in the local media and social networks of the authorities. The units are jointly funded by the army and local governments.
The publication states that the Bootur detachment was formed in Yakutia, and the Tiger battalion in Primorye. In Tatarstan, Alga and Timer battalions were recruited – only from the natives of the republic.
In the Perm Territory, a motorized rifle company Parma for 90 people and a tank battalion Molot for 160 people were created. A tank battalion named Kuzma Minin is also being built in Nizhny Novgorod. In the Amur region, the Amursky motorized rifle battalion was formed for 400-500 people, in the Tyumen region three units were assembled: the Tobol sapper battalion, the Taiga sniper company and the Siberia artillery division.
Angara units (Irkutsk region), Chelyabinsk battalions Yuzhnouralets (261 people) and South Urals (253 people), Sviyaga and Simbirsk battalions in Ulyanovsk, 200 fighters each, also recruited. At the Ulyanovsk selection point, they say that every day 100 people who want to join call.
In the Kuban, volunteer battalions were formed on the basis of the Cossack army. In April, a detachment named after the ataman of the Black Sea Cossack army Zakhary Chepiga was created there, and in May – the Kuban detachment, now the Don Cossack detachment was reorganized into a brigade, the Terek battalion, the Kuban and Yenisei detachment attached to it. In total, 1.2 thousand Cossacks are already participating in the war in Ukraine, and a training center for Cossack volunteers is operating in the Krasnodar Territory.
To all those who join such volunteer units, the Ministry of Defense concludes contracts for a period of several months with the possibility of extension, these people receive the official status of contract soldiers. Residents of Omsk are promised to be paid 130,000 Russian rubles per month (about $2,150 at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on August 8), in other regions – more than 200,000 ($3,300), in Perm – 300,000 ($4,960 ), in addition, they must pay daily allowances of 8,000 rubles ($132) for each day abroad.
Regional authorities promised a one-time payment from 100,000 ($1,650). In case the families of volunteers die, they should receive compensation – for example, in Bashkiria they promise 12.3 million rubles (about 200 thousand dollars).
Earlier it was also reported that Russia is preparing an “imperial legion” for the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin recruits forces that openly express neo-Nazi ideology and are included in the list of particularly dangerous terrorist organizations.
Also, German intelligence says that Russian neo-Nazis are already fighting in Ukraine. They are members of at least two right-wing radical groups – the Russian Imperial League and Rusich.
