LOS ANGELES (AP) – The “Dancing with the Stars” waltz has left its longtime ABC home and moved to streaming service Disney +, the network’s corporate brother.
The competition series, which debuted on the broadcast network in 2005, will be at Disney + this fall in the U.S. and Canada, the company said Friday.
This will be the first live series on Disney +, said Karim Daniel, president of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution. The show received a two-season order from Disney +.
“The show’s wide appeal, as well as the very popular Disney -themed contests, make Disney + the perfect home for‘ Dancing with the Stars ’and continue to expand our demographic reach,” Daniel said in a statement.
The change came to the platform as ABC awaits next season’s NFL Games, which will air on Monday night, a time frame that belongs to “Dancing with the Stars”.
The dance competition is also in line with the family programming that Disney + focuses on as part of a competitive and crowded streaming market.
