Thailand: 13 killed and 40 injured in nightclub fire

A fire in a nightclub in Thailand on Friday morning killed 13 people and injured 40, the rescue service said.

The fire started at the disco Mount B in Sattahip district of the province Chonburi, about 150 kilometers south of Bangkok, a spokesman for the Savang Rescue Fund Rojanathammasatana told AFP, asking not to reveal his identity.

The rescue service indicated that the acoustic foam lining the walls of the club accelerated the fire, and that firefighters The fire was brought under control in about three hours.

The dead, four women and nine men, were found mostly near the overcrowded entrance and toilets of the nightclub, their bodies badly burned, the rescue service said.

Apparently, all the victims are Thais.

“There are no foreigners among the dead,” a police lieutenant colonel told AFP. Bunseong Inyoung.
