US conspiracy theorist fined $1 million

American radio host and conspiracy theorist. Alex Jones On Thursday, he was fined $4.1 million for spreading lies about a school shooting that killed 20 children and 6 adults in 2012.

Jones was ordered by a jury to pay a fine as compensation for damages caused to the parents of one of the victims of the shooting. Jesse Lewiswho was 6 years old when the killer broke into the school and took his life and the lives of his classmates.

After complaints began to come in, a radio commentator known for his far-right positions changed his speech and further admitted that the shooting was real.

The $4.1 million the jury awarded to the victims is far short of the $150 million they originally asked for, though a second trial remains to be held to determine whether Jones should also pay punitive damages, i.e. for particularly offensive behavior.
