Russian media, citing sources close to the Kremlin, said few people in the occupied territories wanted to “join” the Russian Federation. This was confirmed by the results of a closed survey.
In July, the Russian occupiers held polls in the occupied territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions about “joining” Russia. This idea is supported by only 30%. This was reported by the Russian edition of Meduza on Friday, August 5, citing sources close to the Kremlin.
The media reported that the efforts of Russian propagandists were not producing results and that Russia’s support for the temporarily occupied territories was weak.
“Two interlocutors close to the AP (President’s office – ed.) said … that in mid-July, a closed sociological survey was conducted in the occupied territories of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions about whether local residents want to join Russia. According to its results, for About 30% were in favor of joining, the same number (under the conditions of employment) spoke in favor of keeping the regions within Ukraine, while the others are “difficult to answer.”
The Kremlin believes that despite the low numbers, “referendums will be held as they should be.”
In addition, the sources said that September 11 as the date of the referendum is rather arbitrary. It can be done at a later date.
It will be remembered that the United States has warned Russia of a quick and strict response in the event of the annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine.
According to media estimates, the Russian invaders hope to annex a fifth of the entire territory of Ukraine in September with the help of pseudo-referendums.
Recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow’s military goals in Ukraine “now go beyond Donbass”, Moscow is targeting the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
