Putin and Erdogan agreed to partially pay for gas supplies in rubles

The leaders of Russia and Turkey found a consensus on the purchase of Russian gas by Ankara, the latter is ready to pay with the national currency of the Russian Federation.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin have agreed to begin partial payments in rubles for Russian gas supplies to Turkey. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, according to the Russian pro-government news agency TASS on Friday, August 5.

The media also published a statement by the two presidents following the talks in Sochi, namely:

  • the Presidents of the Russian Federation and Turkey agreed to hold the next meeting of the High Level Cooperation Council in Turkey;

  • Putin and Erdogan emphasized the importance of maintaining the political unity and territorial integrity of Syria;

  • the leaders of Russia and Turkey emphasized the need to ensure the implementation of the Istanbul agreements, including the unhindered export of Russian grain;

  • the parties agreed to increase the volume of trade between the Russian Federation and Turkey, to meet the expectations of both parties on energy issues;

  • the presidents agreed to increase cooperation between the Russian Federation and Turkey in the transport, industry, agriculture, and construction sectors;

  • Putin and Erdogan, “despite the current regional and global challenges,” confirmed the desire of Russia and Turkey to further develop relations;

  • The leaders of the countries emphasized the fundamental importance of trust in the relationship between the Russian Federation and Turkey for achieving regional and international stability.

It will be remembered that the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, flew to the city of Sochi to talk with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

It was previously reported that Erdogan and Putin met in Iran at the end of July. At that time, the media reported that the Russian leader requested the production of Bayraktar drones in the Russian Federation, which became one of the symbols of Ukrainian resistance to Moscow’s military aggression.
