EU imposes new sanctions against Yanukovych

The European Union has imposed sanctions against Ukraine’s fourth President Viktor Yanukovych for undermining the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. His son Alexander Yanukovych is also on the sanctions list. The website of the Council of the EU reported this on Thursday, August 4.

The report says that they were added to the list of sanctions for destroying the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, the stability and security of the state.

The EU noted that restrictions were imposed on Alexander Yanukovych for dealing with work groups in Donbass.

In the past, sanctions against Yanukovych and his son acted for the misuse of funds from the Ukrainian budget.

“The EU strongly condemns Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on the civilian population and civilian infrastructure and calls on Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw all its troops and military equipment from all Ukrainian territories in within its internationally recognized borders,” the EU Council added.

Brussels also called for the safe return of kidnapped Ukrainian children from Russia.

Recall that three criminal cases are being investigated against Yanukovych. For all of them, the court allowed the arrest of the former president.
