The United States government has set up a national monkeypox response team and appointed emergency and epidemiological experts to deal with the disease.
This morning, the White House announced in a statement President Joe Biden’s nomination of experts to lead this panel.
The coordinator will be Robert Fenton, currently in charge of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Federal Emergency Management Agencyin English) in the west of the country and one of the “most experienced emergency management leaders in the country”.
The Deputy Team Leader will be Dr. Demetre Dasklakis, a public health expert and current director of HIV prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Dasklakis is also an expert in the treatment of diseases that afflict the LGTBIA+ community and has led infectious disease control for the New York City Department of Health several times.
