Duty-free shops for diplomats, consuls, employees of international companies and their families will open in Moscow and St. The corresponding decree of the government of the Russian Federation was published on August 3, on Wednesday, on the official Internet portal of legal information.
They plan to sell alcohol, tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics, jewelry, smartphones and watches there.
Price tags in stores will be indicated in rubles, dollars and euros. It is possible to buy goods at retail outlets only in retail upon presentation of documents confirming one’s official position.
These stores will not sell goods to other people.
The network will be owned by a Russian company, to be established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a co-founder chosen through an open competition, and customs officials will control the stores.
The stores will open at the end of August. They are located outside checkpoints for goods crossing the Russian state border.
An analogue of future retail outlets is the network of branded stores “Beryozka”, which operated during the Soviet era. They sold food, clothing, equipment for foreign currency to diplomats and foreign specialists.
