Latvia called for NATO to create a mission of air defense in Baltic, as well as resistance to Ukraine methods with Russian drones. It was said by the President of Latvia, Edgers Rinkevich in Riga at the first NATO military committee conference at the level of armed forces commanders, Delfi’s Baltic Edition reports.
The Latvian leader emphasized that increasing defense costs is a test for every country and Europe as a whole.
“It’s not about Excel tables or political slogans, but about the real possibilities needed for troops, Naval and Military-Air forces to prevent both new and traditional threats … Russia is a long-term security and experience in Europe and NATO in every possible way,” he said.
According to him, the best way to protect NATO countries is restraint, but it should be effective. According to him, Latvia in the near future is ready to send 5% of GDP to defense.
The Lithuanian head of the State also recalled that Latvia as Russia and Belarus neighbors is aware of its responsibility for strengthening the NATO and EU’s external border, including opposition to illegal movement.
Rankvich urged to patrolling the Baltic Airspace on a missile defense mission and used technological solutions to combat drones, adopting Ukraine’s experience.
