US Secretary of Defense Pit Hegset ordered hundreds of generals and admirals of the American Armed Forces to gather as soon as possible – not indicating the reason – on the basis of the Marine Corps in Virginia, which caused confusion and anxiety after the administration of Donald Trump.
It is reported by The Washington Post by reference to more than ten sources.
It is noted that this extremely unusual directive was sent to almost all the highest commanders of the Armed Forces around the world.
The representative of the Pentagon Sean Parnell confirmed that Hegset “will face his highest military leaders at the beginning of next week,” but did not provide additional details.
It is not yet known whether the White House is involved in the meeting and whether the US president intends to attend.
According to the sources of the publication, the Hegsset order applies to all senior officers with the rank of general of the brigade or higher, or their equivalents in the fleet, who occupy command posts, as well as their highest advisers – a total of about 800 people serving in the United States or in other countries. Usually, each of these officers runs hundreds or thousands of ordinary military personnel.
Among those who are expected to take part in the Hegsset meeting, there are higher commanders in the conflict zones and senior military leaders located in Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.
None of the interlocutors of the publication recalls that the US Minister of Defense never orders such a large number of generals and admirals to get together. Some of them stated that this is anxiety about safety.
People are very concerned. They have no idea what this means, ”emphasized one of the interlocutors of the publication.
