Military power can now be used against drones in forbidden or limited zones.
The Lithuanian Sejm approved amendments that would allow the Lithuanian army to be more instantly and easier to neutralize drones that threaten Tuesday, September 23. The local LRT local media reports it.
Changes in law on flight and the charter of the application of military power are supported by all Lithuanian parliamentaries.
Amendments are considered according to a special urgent procedure – according to the Sejm charter, this is possible when it is necessary to “immediately ensure important social and state interests.”
The Lithuanian Minister of Defense Doville Shakalene noted that the current legal actions and procedures have not yet complied with modern threats and their changeable personality.
In accordance with the changes, by the decision of the defense minister or the person who was allowed to him, the military force would be applied against the drones to the prohibited or limited zones if their flights were carried out in violation of established conditions, restrictions or order.
Earlier, soldiers had the right to use only force against aircraft, which were used as weapons in illicit areas.
The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania, who prepared changes, said the army could be more flexible and responded well to violations of air space with drones and, if necessary, use military force to neutralize threats. However, even in the presence of a legal framework, the military force will not be used in all cases -only “with the absolute need of the military, taking all possible caution to avoid serious consequences for people and ownership.”
Changes in aviation law also provide for the mechanism of activating restrictions zones and the procedures for informing about air violations.
The amendments were prepared to be considered the events of this tag, when the two Russian Gerbera drones invaded Lithuania, which was one of the explosivers.
After the incidents, Lithuania installed additional air defense systems on the border with Belarus, considering the fact that the drone flew to the airspace a second time.
