In the conditions of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, it should be considered that the enemy is still using toponymy as a manipulative mechanism, notes the Minister of Culture.
The Expert Council of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on overcoming the consequences of Russification and totalitarianism decided a list of the ten most common urbanonyms recommended for renaming in the first place. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture.
The TOP 10 most commonly used toponyms include:
Yuri Gagarin;
Alexander Pushkin;
Ivan Michurin;
Valery Chkalov;
Maxim Gorky;
Yuri Lermontov;
Alexander Suvorov;
Vladimir Mayakovsky;
Alexander Matrosov;
Vladimir Komarov.
“In the context of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, it should be considered that the enemy is still using toponymy as a manipulative mechanism for sending propaganda messages, values, his own model of worldview and the concept of the so-called “Russian. world.” The mass war has caused to accelerate the process of departure from the cultural space of Ukraine and the Russian socio-political discourse introduced for decades as “great Russian culture,” said Alexander Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy.
Recall that the Ministry of Culture summarized the results of a survey on the coat of arms on the Motherland monument: The majority of polled citizens of Ukraine voted to replace the coat of arms of the USSR with the coat of arms of Ukraine.
