Accession to SEPA will be an important event for the European integration of Ukraine and will provide new opportunities for the Ukrainian economy.
The National Bank of Ukraine is actively working on joining our country in the single area of European currency payments SEPA. This is facilitated by the status of a candidate for EU membership. This was announced on Monday, August 1, on Facebook by the National Bank of Ukraine.
“An important stage of cooperation with the European Payments Council, which coordinates SEPA activities, has been launched. We are grateful to the European Payments Council for its readiness to support the National Bank of Ukraine on the path to deep integration of the Ukrainian and European payment markets and Ukraine’s accession to SEPA,” said NBU Deputy Chairman Oleksiy Shaban.
He added that Ukraine will continue dialogue and expert discussions to jointly determine the criteria for the accession process, develop a roadmap and a step-by-step plan for early integration.
The NBU noted that joining SEPA will provide Ukraine with new opportunities for the economy. In particular, Ukraine will receive a simplified entry into the EU market for Ukrainian business, technical barriers for Ukrainian fintech to enter the EU financial services market will decrease, and the cost of transfers of money from/to EU countries will decrease.
Recall that Ukraine has fulfilled 63% of the association agreement with the European Union.
