The blows of close drones in Ukraine caused more victims to the civilian population than other weapons.
The number of victims among civilians in Ukraine strongly in 2025 increased by 40% compared to last year. In particular, the number of dead increased by 17%, and the injured – by 46%. This was reported by the UN Monitoring Mission to Human Rights in Ukraine (MMPCHU).
In August, the blows of close radius drones caused more victims to civilians in Ukraine than other weapons. As a result, 58 civilians were killed and 272 were injured.
In the August report, MMPCHU noted that nearly 72% of all victims were recorded near the front line, especially in the Donetsk and Kherson regions.
In addition to strengthening the front line attacks, in 2025 the use of long weapons, missiles and barracks of ammunition to defeat territories located far from the front, and this trend continued in September after a break in August.
In a massive attack on September 6-7, Russian armed forces, according to reports, used 810 barracking ammunition and 13 missiles. This is the largest amount of weapons used in the same attack since the beginning of a full -scale invasion on February 24, 2022. The attack covers several regions of the country. As a result of the attack, at least five civilians were killed, 41 others were injured in six regions, including Kyiv.
In August 2025, attacking energy infrastructure, especially in gas supply facilities, also intensified.
In total, from the beginning of the full -scale raid of the Russian Federation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the UN’s human rights monitoring mission was documented by at least 14,116 civilians, including 733 children.
The number of injured were 36,481 people, of which 2,285 were children.
