The country’s foreign minister said the step could have distracted the country’s financial reputation and created risks for the European Union.
Belgium could not confiscate revenues from frozen Russian properties and move them to Ukraine. On this on Friday, September 5, the country’s foreign affairs minister said Maxim Prevo in the Euronews commentary.
According to the PREV, such a step could break the country’s financial reputation and create risks for the European Union.
“This will be a negative signal for many states that maintain their sovereignty ownership in Brussels and other European financial centers,” Prevo explained.
He also noted that the forced seizure of Russian funds could reduce euro trust. For this reason, the minister denied the proposal to create an investment fund based on these possessions.
At the same time, Preter confirmed that Belgium will join the “Coalition of Decisive” and provide support to Ukraine in the field of security. He did not announce the details, but noted that the country was ready to assist with clearance and considered the possibility of shipping an aircraft.
Earlier, the media wrote that the European Commission developed a mechanism that would translate the nearly 200 billion euros of frozen Russian owners for Ukraine’s restoration after the war.
