The Ukrainian government announced on Monday that it has received the first half of a €1 billion aid provided by the European Union (EU) as well as Mars II rocket launchers supplied by Germany.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said via his Telegram account that the amount is already in the accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
“We expect the second tranche to arrive tomorrow,” he added, recalling that the aid is part of a larger package of 9 billion euros to support Ukraine with the financial consequences of the war.
“These funds will help finance the priority needs of the budget,” the prime minister added.
First MARS II rocket launchers
On the other hand, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that they had already been transferred Ukraine the first self-propelled multiple launch rocket system MARS II from the manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.
“The third brother of the long-range family – MLRS MARS II from Germany arrived in Ukraine”, Reznikov wrote on Twitter, thanking his German colleague Christine Lambrecht.
Last week, Berlin said it would provide Kyiv with three of these rocket launchers, which, depending on the ammunition used, can hit targets up to 300 kilometers away.
