In Russia, for the first time from the beginning of the invasion of financing and weapons of Ukraine, every second ruble was eaten from taxpayers to the federal budget.
This was reported by the publication of Moscow Times with reference to the results of the researcher of the German Institute of International Security Janias Kliuga.
In the first quarter of 2025, the share of military spending was a record 50.1%, and at the end of the second – 48.2%. The previous record was recorded in the first quarter of 2023 – 45.4%.
In general, the burden of war for Russia is becoming more and more difficult:
- In 2022, a military machine burned 24.4% of taxes received in the budget;
- in 2023 – 32.05%;
- In 2024 – 39.05%.
It is noted that the share of military items in budget expenditures is lower, since the costs themselves exceed the income, and the budget is limited. Thus, in January-June, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation raised 17,584 trillion rubles and held 21,278 trillion. Of this amount, 39.9%came to war, and in the first quarter – 41.2%.
These values are absolute records in the modern history of Russia and exceed even the levels of recent years of the Soviet Union, when the collapse of the socialist economy forced the CPSU “under the knife” of the giant military-industrial complex, the publication emphasizes.
In January-June, according to the Clugs, the Kremlin spent 8.484 trillion rubles on the defense:
- Compared to the same period last year, the cost of the production of army and weapons increased by 31%;
- Compared to January-Jun 2023 by 95%;
- Compared to the first year of the war, three times.
