In Pristina, they stressed that they would make concessions once Serbs protesting against the change dismantled their barricades.
Following a video message from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and the US response to the escalation of the conflict in the Balkans, the Kosovo authorities on Monday evening, August 1, announced that they will not yet impose the ban on the entry of vehicles with Serbian numbers and documents issued in Serbia.
So, on Sunday evening it became known that Vucic arrived at the General Staff of the Serbian army, where he spoke with the command of the NATO mission in Kosovo. After that, he appealed.
Vučić urged the international community to do everything possible for Pristina to postpone its decisions regarding Serbs in the region. He said the situation should be discussed in a personal meeting.
The Serbian leader also expressed the hope that the arguments will move to the “irresponsible” side and that through dialogue it will be possible to achieve a compromise that will lead to peace in the region.
Meanwhile, Kosovo Online reported that US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeff Hovenier called on Kosovo President Vjos Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti to postpone plans to replace Serbian passports and license plates with Kosovars for a month.
After that, Kosovo decided to postpone the procedure for imposing a ban on Serbian documents until September 1. The corresponding official decision will be made public in the near future, the media announced.
In Pristina, they stressed that they would delay the introduction of the ban once Serbs protesting against the law dismantled their barricades.
Recall that the situation in the Balkans escalated the previous day, when Serbs in Kosovo began to protest against Pristina’s decision to re-register vehicles and identity cards for Kosovo.
Serbia and Kosovo began drawing troops to the border. Shooting was reported at one of the checkpoints.
Against the background of the escalation, the NATO Mission in Kosovo (KFOR) issued a statement that it is ready to intervene in the situation in case of a threat to the stability of the region.
