Monkeypox case dies in Europe for the first time

In Spain, 4,000 people have been infected. The majority are men.

A man has died in Spain after contracting monkeypox. This is the first recorded death from the disease in the country and across Europe, El Pais reports, citing the Spanish Ministry of Health.

Thus, according to the agency’s latest data, 4298 smallpox-infected monkeys have been identified in the country, of which 120 people (3.2%) were hospitalized and one died.

It was noted that the majority of disease carriers – 4081 infected – were men aged 10 months to 88 years. The average age of the patients was 37 years.

Earlier, WHO scientists predicted that the outbreak of monkeypox could increase within a few months. There is almost no chance of stopping the spread of the disease.
