The Russian leader made a big mistake when he hoped to quickly seize Kyiv and the whole of Ukraine. By now, he has probably abandoned plans to acquire the capital.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has “probably given up” on trying to take Kyiv as Russian troops move into eastern and southern Ukraine. This was said by U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Defense News reports.
“Putin thought he could really take over Ukraine very quickly, take the capital very quickly. But he was wrong,” Austin said.
“I think Putin has probably abandoned his efforts to take the capital and is now focused on the south and east of the country,” Austin said, adding that the Pentagon is focused on continuing to arm the forces. Ukrainian as the war entered its next stage.
Remember that the West does not exclude a new attempt by Putin to seize Kyiv. The Russian Federation could invade the Kiev region again once its troops complete tasks in Donbass.
