Local elections in Ukraine are held simultaneously throughout the country on the last Sunday of October the fifth year of the powers of local councils and leaders and, accordingly, should be held on the last Sunday of October this year.
Nevertheless, this year, from the continuing complete Russian aggression, there will be no election. This was reported by the press service of the Central Election Commission.
It is noted that the date of local elections is set by Verkhovna RADA no later than 90 days before the voting day.
From the full armed aggression of the Russian Federation, martial law was introduced in Ukraine, during which non -organized elections are not held. Thus, the decision on the appointment of the following local elections was not made by parliament, ”CEC emphasized.
In addition, the decision of the Council on the appointment of local elections is a prerequisite for submitting candidates for territorial election commissions by parties.
In view of this, the commission approves the absence for the presentation of candidates for regional, district, city, villages, settlements of territorial election commissions, as well as for the creation of the Central Election Commission, district territorial election commissions for new compositions of territorial elections of various levels.
CEC claims that if it were not for the war, the period of preparation and organization of the following local elections will now begin, in particular, in accordance with the requirements of electoral legislation, local branches of political parties will be able to submit candidates for the new TEC.
However, during martial law, therefore, elections were not organized and not organized, the composition of which was formed in the next local elections on October 25, 2020, continues to exercise its powers to form a new composition of the relevant territorial election commission, the CEC says.
