Washington is evaluating various proposals for new anti-Russian sanctions for Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
The administration of US President Joe Biden is considering the possibility of including Russia in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism. This is what White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a briefing on Friday, July 29.
He emphasized that the relevant decision was made by the Department of State.
“This requires an appropriate determination by the Department of State, taking into account specific standards and laws enacted by the US Congress. We are considering this along with a range of other proposals designed to impose additional costs in Russia,” said Jean-Pierre.
Remember, the previous day, the US Senate adopted a resolution calling on the White House to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism due to its actions in Ukraine, Georgia, Syria, and also in Chechnya.
Before this, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, spoke to the head of the US State Department, Anthony Blinken, with a similar request.
