During the meeting, the issues of the Orthodox Catholic dialogue and current conflicts, especially the war in Ukraine, were discussed.

Pope Lev Xiv meets with Metropolitan Anthony, the head of the Department of the Outdoor Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. It was reported by the Vatican Press Service on Saturday, July 26th.

“This morning, the Holy Father took the audience … his Grace Anthony, Metropolitan Volokolamsk, the head of the Department of external Companion of the Patriarchate of Moscow,” the report said.

In this regard, the Reuters informed that during the meeting, Pope Leo Xiv discussed Anthony a war in Ukraine “as part of a possible attempt to restore relationships between churches, tense due to interference in Russia.”

Meanwhile, the Russian Orthodox Church noted that during the conversation, “There are many questions about the state of the Orthodox Catholic dialogue, as well as current conflicts in the world, especially in Ukraine and the Middle East.”

Earlier, Leo Xiv announced his willingness to provide the Vatican as a platform for direct communication between Ukraine and Russia.

But Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made it clear that Orthodox countries cannot arrange “Catholic site.” Obviously, the Russians were happier with Istanbul, where this week the third cycle of negotiations between the DEGATIONS of Ukraine and the Russian Federation took place.
