Zelensky “expanded” the shevchenko prize

Instead of nominations, literature has emerged nominations of prose and poetry. Four new nominations are also added.

President Vladimir Zelensky has increased the number of nominations of the National Prize of Ukraine named at Taras Shevchenko. He reported this in a video message tonight on Saturday, July 26th.

“Now I signed a command about the Shevchenko Prize. This is a step toward expanding the award. There are many discussions with experts, including the cultural community. The prize committee has been awarded,” said the head, “the head said.

Meanwhile, Decrees No. 553/2025 and No. 552/2025 appeared on the president’s website, which updated policies for granting a national prize named on Taras Shevchenko. From now on, the prize will be awarded to 13 nominations.

As follows from the document, rather than a nomination of literature, nominations of prose and poetry have emerged.

In addition, new nominations of concert art, photograph, design and creative curator of cultural and artistic projects have been added.

The decisions begin on the day of publication.

Ukraine’s National Prize named at Taras Shevchenko is a state award, the highest creative mark in Ukraine for a significant contribution to cultural and art development. Established in 1961. Thus, next year, the 65th anniversary of the prize foundation will be celebrated. The first diploma and honorary sign of Laureates on March 9, 1962 were Pavel Tychin, Oles Gonchar in the field of literature and plate Mayboroda in the field of music. Later, the number of bonuses increased.

Recall that in March Zelensky signed an order at the award of the National Prize of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko for 2025. The award size was 484,480 hryvnias.

Zelensky has also been reported to have appointed Evgenia Nischuk as the head of Taras Shevchenko National Prize Committee.
