Currently, the Palestinian state has identified more than 140 of the 193 UN member states, including China, as well as some European Union countries.
French President Emmanuel Macron said France officially recognized the Palestinian state in September during a UN General Assembly session in New York. “Being true to my historical obligation to ensure a fair and durable world in the Middle East, I decided to recognize France through the Palestinian state. I clearly announce it at the UN General Assembly in September of this year,” Macron said.
“It is necessary to immediately establish a Truce, release all hostages and provide a huge humanitarian aid in the Gaza population. It is also necessary to guarantee the demilitarization of Hamas, ensure safety and restore gas,” Macron added.
What is the recognition
Currently, the Palestinian state has identified more than 140 of the UN member states in 193, including China, as well as some European countries, but among the countries of Grand Seven France-If Macron in September fulfill its promise to be the first power to recognize the state of Palestinian.
The rest – the USA, Britain, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada – are not recognized.
Palestinian officials accepted Macron’s decision, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this step would be a reward for fear after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
“In these conditions, the Palestinian state will be a bridge for the destruction of Israel, and not for peaceful association with it. Palestinians do not seek to create a state near Israel, they are trying to create a state rather than Israel,” said the Netanyahu statement.
The reaction of the world
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar called Macron’s decision.
British prime minister Kir Starkmer said on Friday he would conduct emergency negotiations with French and Germany leaders to discuss how to “stop the death of people from gas and provide people with the products they need”. According to him, StateHood “is an important right of the Palestinian citizens”, and the ceasefire in Gaza “will put us on the path of recognition of the Palestinian state”.
State secretary Marco Rubio said Friday night that Washington declined Macron’s plan to recognize the Palestinian state.
Macron’s statement was accepted by Hamas – a group that the European Union, that was, including France, declared a terrorist. Representatives of this group said the “right step toward restoring justice related to our oppressed Palestinian.”
But French Minister of Foreigner Jean-Noel Barro replied that France would not support Hamas, but his recognition of the Palestinian state was opposite.
“Hamas has always rejected the formula of the two states. Palestinated, France opposes the goals of this terrorist organization and supports the world party against the war of war,” Barro wrote to X.
U.S. President Donald Trump also did not like Macron’s initiative.
“What he says doesn’t matter. He’s a very good person. I like him, but this statement is weightless,” said the US president.
