US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of 30% of import duties in the EU and Mexico from August 1.
This is indicated in the letters of Trump to the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Lien and President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum, reports a collision.
In a letter to the head of the European Commission, Trump said that the United States “agreed to continue cooperation with the European Union, despite one of the largest trade deficits.”
Nevertheless, we decided to move forward, but only with a large balance and fair trade, ”Trump said.
In a letter, Trump regretted that the trade relations between the EU and the United States were “far from mutual” and complained about the “stable trade deficit”, which, according to him, was created by the EU policy, including tariffs.
Starting from August 1, 2025, we will be levied from the European Union only 30% for EU goods imported into the United States separately from all sector tariffs, ”he said.
Trump also assured that “a 30% figure is much less than required to eliminate inequality in a lack of trade,” which the United States has with the EU. He added that if the EU in response increases its tariffs, then this amount will be added to 30% of tariffs.
