Authorities have set aside two years to implement diversification and energy conservation plans, as well as to fill gas storage areas.
The Italian authorities intend to completely abandon the Russian gas supply by 2024. This was announced on Wednesday, July 27, by the Minister of Ecological Transition of the country, Roberto Chingolani, in a press conference, writes ANSA.
“In the short term, the goal is to overcome the winter of 2022-2023 through a diversification plan, warehouse space filling and an energy saving plan,” said the government member.
Chingolani recalled that in accordance with the new European regulation on a 15% reduction in gas consumption, it was established that the savings programs that preceded the regulation counted at 100%.
“Based on this, for Italy, we will talk about saving 7%, about 55 billion cubic meters, which is equivalent to almost 4 billion cubic meters per year,” he calculated.
It was previously reported that in Germany, private households and industrial enterprises were able to reduce gas consumption from 5% to 7%.
