In New York, at the auction of Sotheby, the largest of the famous Martian Meteorites will be sold. Its mass is 25 kg, and the source is the planet Mars.
In the United States, a unique meteorite is placed for sale, which was once part of the Red Planet. Bild reported it.
On July 16, the auction house of Sotheby will be auction, which among the many will have the largest fragment of the world’s Martian origin – NWA 16788 Meteorite. Its weight is 25 kilograms, and its cost is estimated at several million dollars – up to $ 4 million.
A rare thing was found in 2023 in Niger territory. Scientists believe that meteorite was formed as a result of an asteroid collision with Mars – the fragment was thrown into space, traveled to the universe for thousands of years, and then fell to the ground. Such founds are very rare: about 400 Martian meteorites are known in the world, most of them many times less than this.
Sotheby called the stone “a rare treasure for collectors”-not only because of its mass, but also because of the good state of safety.
Earlier it was reported at Sotheby’s auction in Swiss Geneva, a very rare blue diamond sold for $ 21.5 million.
