Lithuanian Railways representatives confirmed the crossing of Lithuania by the first train with sanctioned goods from Russia.
Lithuanian Railways confirmed that the first train carrying sanctioned goods from Russia to Kaliningrad crossed Lithuania and reached its destination. This was reported by the edition of the Baltic countries Delfi.
“The first train to Kaliningrad has passed, today (July 26, – ed.) the second one was checked at customs,” said Mantas Dubauskas, head of Latvian Railway’s communication department.
Lithuanian Customs Department representative Lina Laurinaitete-Grigene noted that the inspection of the second train with five cement cargo wagons was completed at the Kyan border post. As a result, he was allowed to go to Kaliningrad.
“He has been checked and he has left,” he added.
Recall that the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said that they accepted the position of the European Commission on the transit of goods from the Russian Federation in order to avoid a split in the transatlantic unity. At the same time, Vilnius mentioned that the country will not take responsibility for the implementation of this decision.
Earlier, Lithuania blocked transit of Russian goods by rail to the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. In response, the Russian Federation threatened Lithuania with “consequences.”
