Large irreversible losses of weapons and military equipment during the war against Ukraine force Russia to resort to massive reconciliation of obsolete military vehicles.
Against the backdrop of the depletion of equipment reserves of the 1970s, the liberation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation began an active return to the work of even more ancient samples, including T-62 tanks. This was announced today, June 28, the press of the press intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
These machines are restored mainly on the basis of the 103rd armored repair plant located in the city of Atamanovka Transbaikal territory. The supply of T-62 tanks to the zone of hostilities is carried out mainly from the warehouses of the Eastern Military District, from the point of view of Gur.
It was noted that on June 27, 2025, 21 units of T-62 tanks from the Eastern Military District to the European part of the Russian Federation were registered.
The technical condition of most of these machines is unsatisfactory: the tanks were stored in the open air, without maintenance for decades. However, due to the acute shortage of modern basic combat tanks, such as T-90M and T-72B3M, the use of T-62 is considered a temporary but forced solution, -plach in the GUR.
According to GUR Information, which limits the production of modern armored vehicles in the Russian Federation, remains the lack of industrial capacities and deficiencies of imported components with high technologies.
In practice, the T-62 is used not only as active combat units, but also as a stationary fire to strengthen the defensive positions added to the GUR.
