40,000 members of the railway, maritime and transport trade union RMT are on strike in the country. Network Rail workers and 14 train operators are also on strike.
In the UK on Wednesday, July 27, a general strike by railway workers began. The reason is the failure of negotiations on wages, employment and working conditions, according to Sky News.
It is known that 40,000 members of the railway, maritime and transport trade union RMT are on strike in the country. The strike also includes Network Rail workers and 14 train operators who will soon picket stations.
The national railway has warned that it will operate only 20% of its flights on Wednesday, with some parts of the country without trains.
Rail passengers were warned of major disruption and advised to limit travel as much as possible.
Train traffic is expected to resume Thursday morning with a later start when workers return to their duties.
For the next month, a wave of protests is planned on the railways and the London Underground.
RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said union members were more determined than ever to secure decent pay rises, job security and good working conditions.
“Network Rail has not improved on its previous pay offer, and the railways are not offering us anything new. In fact, Network Rail has upped the ante, threatening mandatory redundancies and a dangerous 50 % cut in maintenance work if we don’t call our planned strike again ‘ said Lynch.
London Underground workers are not on strike, but stations linked to train stations may be disrupted.
Today it was also reported that the ground staff of the largest German airline Lufthansa in Europe went on strike. More than a thousand flights were cancelled.
Earlier in Belgium, Brussels Airlines employees went on strike to protest “excessive work pressure and non-compliance with some collective labor agreements.”
