The leaders of the European Union have agreed to expand sanctions against the Russian Federation, but do not agree with a new package.
The European Council was unable to adopt the 18th package of sanctions against Russia for the war that was a wage against Ukraine. This is stated in conclusions in Ukraine, adopted at the European Council meeting at the level of state and government leaders on Thursday, June 26, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“The European Union, along with the partners, intends to limit Russia’s ability to continue its aggressive war … The European Council has called for further steps against the Russian Shadow Fleet, which Russia uses to miss penalties and creates significant environmental and safe risks.
In addition, EU leaders said that in accordance with the law of the EU, Russia’s properties should remain frozen until “Russia will stop the war of aggression against Ukraine and pay for it for the damage caused by this war.”
Radio Radio Editor Ricard Yuzvyak said the EU leaders have agreed to expand all sanctions against Russia within another six months.
“The leaders did not reach the consent of the last package of penalties – the 18th. Slovakia still did not give a green light. Discussions could continue between ambassadors in the coming days,” the journalist wrote on Social Network X.
At the same time, Yuzvyak did not mention Hungary, who also threatened to hinder the penalties.
Remember, on June 10, the European Commission offered a new package of sanctions against Russia. He is aimed at Moscow’s income from energy, banks and military industries. Hungary and Slovakia blocked EU’s decision on the 18th package of penalties.
