NATO member states agreed on a new defense goal of 5% of GDP by 2035.
Each country of member will represent “annual plans” to gradually achieve this goal, according to the statement.
The threshold of 5% of GDP was set by 2035 “to ensure the fulfillment of individual and collective obligations in accordance with Art. 3 Washington Treaty ”
The document also applies to the further support of Ukraine and claims that its “security facilitates ours”, but they did not condemn Russia for a full war, the guardian writes.
According to the document, Russia is recognized as a “long -term threat” for the entire union. Member countries are required to help Ukraine, because “its security is the safety of the alliance.”
Allies confirm their invariable sovereign obligations to provide support to Ukraine, whose security contributes to ours, and for this purpose they will take into account the direct contribution to the defense of Ukraine and its defense industry in the calculation of the cost of defending the Allies, the document says.
