In the gallery, the tourist tried to repeat the Tuscan Prince’s pose for a selfie, but fell into a canvas for more than 300 years.

At the UFFIZI Gallery in Florence, the visitor accidentally broke the picture of the prince of Tuscan in the 17th century, trying to make an amazing selfie.

According to the art publication of Hypeallergic, the incident occurred on June 21. The man tried to emulate the pose, describing Fernando de Medici in the picture of Anton Domenico Gabbiani (1695-1700). Having stumbled, he lost his balance and fell straight to the canvas, destroying it from the bottom.

The damaged image was immediately removed from the exhibition “Florence and Europe: the art of the XVIII century”, which included 150 exhibits. The return to exposure is planned after restoration. The gallery noted that the exhibition was closed until July 2.

Police identified the man and transferred information to the court. The Director of the Simone Verde Museum called the situation an example of how the “desire of wishes” destroys a cultural heritage. According to him, the museum plans to take restrictive measures against such behavior.

The UFFIZI Gallery is one of the most popular in Europe. It contains the works of Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo, Raphael and over 1,600 self -portraits of artists with different eras.

Earlier it was reported in the Netherlands Museum of Boymans – Van Beningen, the boy broke a picture of American artist Mark Rotko.
