Latvia banned citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus to buy real estate

The Latvia diet prohibits the citizens of Russia and Belarus to buy real estate in the country. On June 19, the law was adopted in the third, final reading. LSM reported it.

The prohibition will be applied to legal creatures registered in Russia or Belarus, it also applies to transactions that are completed after the law is forced.

At the same time, the project provides exceptions, in particular, if the property is inherited by relatives or is recognized by the court’s judgment.

A separate amendment, which provides relief for the citizens of Belarus who received the status of refugees in Latvia, was rejected before the third reading of the parliament commission.

The ban did not work if the only housing was purchased, and the consumer had a permanent residence permit released before the law was initiated, or he had, after the law entered, he received the status of a permanent EU resident in Latvia.

Note of the law that coincides with military operations in Ukraine, Russia has paid a hybrid war against other democratic and sovereign states that do not support and condemn Russia’s aggression or support Ukraine in its struggle. Among these countries is Latvia.

One of the instruments of non -influence influence and elements of hybrid war is an indirect real estate acquisition in other countries. Russia also used the presence of its citizens abroad as an occasion to begin the war, justifying military operations with the need to protect.

Remember that the countries of Baltic, Northern Europe and Poland are planning to prohibit the entry into the Schengen zone among Russian citizens who participated in the war against Ukraine.
