Gennady Shapovalov, according to the decision of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, will be the new commander of the land forces of the armed forces of Ukraine. This was proven by President No. 412/2025.
“To appoint the Shapovalov Gennady Nikolayevich commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the state leader ordered.
Gennady Shapovalov was born in 1978 in the Kirovograd region.
He graduated from the Institute of Tank Forces in Kharkov. He later studied at Ukraine’s National University of Defense and underwent training at US Military College.
Over the years of service, he went from the commander of a tank platoon to the commander of a separate motorized infantry brigade named Yakov Gandzyuk.
In March 2022, he was awarded the title of the Brigade General.
In the spring of 2024, Shapovalov led the operational command of the South, and in February 2025 he was appointed representative of Ukraine under the NATO Mission for Military Assistance and Training (NSATU) in Germany.
As you know, until recently, this position will be held by Mikhail Musty. However, on June 1, the Russians faced a missile blow to the location of one of the training units of the land forces of the armed forces of Ukraine. It is known about 12 dead and more than 60 injured.
On the same day, the Dapate resigned, according to him, he could not cope with his duties and “did not fully ensure the fulfillment of his commandments,” as a result of which the death of the people took place.
