The Law on multiple citizenship in Ukraine was approved by the Supreme Rada.
The bill No. 11469 on ensuring the exercise of the right to acquire and preserve citizenship of Ukraine, initiated by President Volodimyr Zelensky, was supported by 243 votes on people on June 18. Parliamentarians Yaroslav Zheleznyak and Alexei Gonkharenko were registered on a telegram.
The document provides that citizens of Ukraine have several passports of different countries and describe multiple citizenship conditions. It is expected that foreign citizenship will be acquired with the preservation of the Ukrainian language.
Numerous citizenship is provided for in the case:
- the acquisition of a child through the birth of Ukrainian citizenship and citizenship of another state;
- the acquisition of a child who is a citizen of Ukraine, the citizenship of his adoptive parents;
- Automatic acquisition of other citizenship by a citizen of Ukraine as a result of marriage with a foreigner;
- The automatic acquisition by a citizen of Ukraine, who has reached the age of the majority, of other citizenship as a result of the application of legislation on citizenship of a foreign state, if such a citizen of Ukraine did not receive a document confirming the presence of citizenship of another state.
In addition, the law allows us to acquire Ukrainian citizenship to foreigners who are citizens of those states that are included in the list of those who can obtain citizenship in a simplified form.
We recall that on December 17, 2024, Verkhovna Rada supported the bill No. 11469 on the introduction of the institute of multiple citizenship in Ukraine.
