Ukrainian refugees will not have temporary protection in the EU for some time.
The Council of the European Union supported the continuation of the temporary protection of refugees from Ukraine until March 4, 2027. The temporary protection system reduces the burden on national asylum systems, since people who fall under this form of protection should not apply for references. This was reported on the website of the EU Council.
It is noted that the continuation does not change the conditions for the decision of March 2022 about categories of people who are subjected to temporary protection or rights that they enjoy.
We will continue to protect millions of Ukrainian refugees during the year, ”said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Poland Tomash.
Poland, which presides in the EU before July 1, 2025, also stated that she also initiated a discussion of a strategy for gradual reduction of temporary protection “after the achievement of a fair world”.
It should be recalled that in April it became known that the UN agency for refugees would be forced to reduce the support of Ukrainian displaced persons from the termination of assistance in the United States and a general reduction in donors support. The programs that will be suspended include psychosocial support, a “extensive scale”, as well as materials for the repair of emergency housing and financial assistance.
