Bratislava is ready to discuss the issue of supplying its MiG-29s to Kyiv in the near future.
Slovakia is ready to discuss the possibility of transferring 11 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. This is what Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy said at a joint press conference with British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, the British channel Sky News reported on Monday, July 25.
The Slovak official noted that his official Bratislava could not provide the aircraft for free. According to him, each MiG-29 costs about 35 million euros.
The official also said that these fighters should be decommissioned by the end of August. Instead, the airspace will be patrolled by the Czech and Polish sides until Slovakia receives the American planes.
“Immediately, when we land them, and the Czechs and Poles take over the protection of the airspace, we will be able to discuss the future of the MiG-29 … We are open to discussing their transfer to Ukraine, but, of course, it will require, I would say, a wider discussion that takes into account the financial aspects and everything else, so the decision has not been made yet,” Nagy concluded.
Let’s remember that the Chief of Staff of the US Air Force Charles Brown does not rule out that Washington or one of its allies may send fighter jets to Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that the United States and allies were discussing the possibility of training Ukrainian pilots as part of a long-term plan to help the country’s Air Force.
