With approximately 2000 protection residences left since the Cold War, only 580 were appropriate. They want to modernize them, as they can accommodate only 0.5% of the population.
Germany boosts civil defense and increases the number of bunkers due to the likely threat of war with the Russian Federation. The Guardian reported this Sunday, June 8.
Germany is preparing for the likely major -scale raid from Russia over the next four years and plans to insist on expanding the network of bombs and shelters, and Ralph Tizler confirms the head of federal civil protection and assistance to natural disasters.
According to him, the state is currently “not ready for war”, as the opinion prevails that it is not necessary to prepare for the hostilities in Germany. However, the full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine changed this view.
Now in Germany they are developing a plan that they intend to show on the day. It provides for the transformation of tunnels, underground parking, metro stations and cellars of public buildings in shelters of at least 1 million people. According to Tizler, it will require at least 10 billion euros over the next four years and 30 billion in a decade.
Currently, in Germany there are about 2000 shelters, of which only 580 are in working conditions. They can accommodate up to 480 thousand people – only half the percentage of the population. For comparison, in Finland there are 50 thousand protective areas – for 85% of the population.
In addition to shelters, authorities plan to update the notification system and strengthen its protection against hacker attacks. Tizler also called on the government to supply the creation of a civil protection service (voluntary or ordered) and appeal to citizens who have an appeal to make food and water stocks for at least 72 hours -or, if possible, within 10 days.
Earlier it was learned that Germany would increase the number of army of 60,000 troops due to threats from Russia.
In Germany, they also said that NATO countries should be forced to increase defense capacity to be prepared for a potential Russian armed attack over the next four years.
