The Holy Father now mentioned that the difference between calendars does not allow Christians to come together to celebrate the most important holiday in the liturical year, causing pastoral work problems within communities.

Pope Leo Xiv suggested to establish the Easter date for all Christians. Pontiff told this to an audience on Saturday, June 7, reported by the Vatican News Resource.

It was noted that at such an initiative, the Pope spoke at a meeting with representatives of Orthodox churches and other non-Catholic East churches that participated in the symposium on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the Nicae Cathedral (which at one time established the overall Easter-Ed’s overall date.)

“This year, when all Christians celebrated Easter the same day, I wanted to confirm the openness of the Catholic Church to find a decision to contribute to the joint celebration of the Lord’s resurrection,” Lev Xiv said.

Dad added that “the difference in calendars does not allow Christians to come together to celebrate the most important holiday in the liturgical year, causing problems of caring within communities, sharing families and weakening trust in our gospel testimony.”

Dad plans to visit the Turkish city of Iznik at the end of November, which was called Nikaya in 325 and where the Ecumenical Council took place.

As reported, this year Christians of eastern and western rituals, despite various calendars, celebrated Easter on the same day – April 20. This occurs rarely -every three to four years.
